For prevention of all the three diseases, there is a combination vaccine. Diphtheria, Tetanus, and Polio virus vaccine is also known as Td/IPV or 3-in-1 booster. The vaccine helps the body generate antibodies which protect against these diseases. This vaccine is given only to children and teenagers. A booster dose is required every ten years.

Diphtheria

Diphtheria is a dangerous disease. One in ten afflicted with this disease is likely to die even after treatment. Fortunately, Diphtheria is preventable. It is an uncommon disease thanks to the Diphtheria Vaccine. You must take the Diphtheria Vaccine for your own safety and also for the sake of community’s safety.

Diphtheria is caused by a type of bacteria. Infected person suffers from an inflammation of the nose and throat. The thick coating of dead tissue in the throat or nose causes difficulty in breathing and swallowing. Other symptoms include – weakness, sore throat, swollen glands in the neck and fever. Virulent diphtheria damages heart, kidney and nerves. It could lead to paralysis.

You can contract diphtheria if you are close to an infected person who sneezes or coughs. You can also contract it if you touch open sores of the infected person or if you touch objects that are contaminated through contact.

Tetanus

Tetanus is a dangerous disease as it has no treatment. Two in ten afflicted with this disease are likely to die. Fortunately, Tetanus is preventable. It is an uncommon disease thanks to the Tetanus Vaccine. You must take the Tetanus Vaccine for your own safety and also for the sake of community’s safety.

Tetanus is caused by a type of bacteria. Infected person develops a thick coating of dead tissue in the throat or nose. Tetanus is also known as Lockjaw because it causes lower jaw to get locked. Tetanus causes difficulty in breathing, pain and spasms so severe as to break bones.

You can contract tetanus through a tiny scratch or a wound caused by a rusted nail or a knife. Normally you do not get infected by another person, however, some sources report that you can contract Tetanus if you are close to an infected person who is sneezing or coughing. You can also contract it if you touch open sores of the infected person or if you touch objects that are contaminated through contact. Symptoms begin to appear only one to four weeks after getting the infection.

Polio

Polio virus is almost fully eradicated from the planet, except for couple countries like Afghanistan and Pakistan. However, you could contract it if you come into contact with an affected person and if you are not vaccinated. Polio has no treatment and it can be deadly – it can compromise your brain, nervous system or muscles (paralysis) and the problem can be long-term or lifelong. Thanks to vaccines, you can save yourself from this dangerous virus.

Your doctor can guide you to choose from these Vaccines which are multi-functional:
